Image Transfer

There is a frequent need for images to be made available or transferred to other institutions. This is only done under strict guidelines, and always in the interests of the welfare of the individual patient concerned.

Privacy Aspects

Privacy law requires that your medical images and reports be kept confidential. We do allow certain people outside CRG access to our imaging records, but only after they have formally agreed to strict rules that limit their access for the sole purpose of providing healthcare to the individual patient concerned.

Transfer Protocol

CRG can transfer copies of patients relevant, previous, radiology examinations to a hospital when patients are undergoing treatment. The images and radiologist's report become part of the patients permanent hospital record and they are subject to the hospital's privacy and security systems.

To do this

  • An authorised person from the participating hospital will either contact their own radiology office or telephone the CRG call centre on +64 3 379 0770.
  • They will identify themselves and state the name, and ID of the patient and the hospital consultant involved.
  • If images are available CRG will transfer them electronically to the hospital PACS with the CRG radiologist's report if required.
  • All such requests will be subject to audit to ensure maintenance of privacy and security.

Between 11:00pm and 8.00am our services are closed. Transfers can still be arranged, to any external institution, by contacting the on-call radiology registrar at Christchurch Hospital. Call the hospital telephone operator on +64 3 364 0640.
