Inteleviewer Handy Hints
Ian Best, Pacific Radiology Ltd, has created these great Inteleviwer Hints.
Hint 1: Multiple Screen Boxes
- A simple way to change your viewer from one screen box to two, three or more boxes: simply hit 2, 3, 4 etc on the numbers above your keyboard.
- Hit 1 to go back to a single screen.
- This is useful for reviewing CT and MR in different planes.
Hint 2: 3D Cursor activation
- To triangulate / correlate between two planes, e.g., axial and coronal, mouse over the structure of interest in one plane, hit C on the keyboard then left mouse click.
- This activates the 3D cursor.
- You will now have a target crosshair on your point of interest and another crosshair will be on the structure of interest in your second plane.
- You can spilt to three screens and correlate in three planes if you wish. If you hit C, left click, hold and drag in your plane of interest the corresponding selected planes and crosshairs will move accordingly.
Hint 3: Use M for Measurement Tools
- InteleViewer allows you to make a number of useful measurements on the screen using the Measurements Tools. The easiest way to access Measurement Tools is to position the cursor on your image of interest and then hit M on the keyboard.
- The default measurement tool is ruler / linear measurement. So to measure left click, hold down, drag, then release. This will measure your structure of interest. The length appears in the bottom left corner of your screen.
- You can change the length of measurement by placing the cursor over either end of the yellow line, left click, hold, drag to adjust and release. To move the measurement ruler left click on the middle and drag.
- To delete the measurement hit Delete on the keyboard. If the measurement tool is not active hit M first then Delete.
-
To toggle through the other Measurement Tools options continue to hit M on the keyboard.
- First you see ruler / linear measurement;
- then elliptical ROI (region of interest, for sq. cm and density measurements);
- simple angle measurement (left click, drag, left click, drag, left click);
- Cobb angle;
- orthogonal measurement;
- freehand ROI;
- and volume ROI.
Hint 4: Quick Key Functions
InteleViewer has a number of useful quick key functions that allow you to manipulate the orientation of images on the screen. This is particularly useful for positioning plain radiographs in the most anatomically intuitive orientation prior to assessment. It can also be useful for manipulating plain films for correlation with CT or MR image series.
- The '<' key rotates the image 90 degrees anticlockwise per keystroke and '>' rotates 90 degrees clockwise.
- 'Ctrl H' flips the image in the horizontal plane
- 'Ctrl V' flips the image in the vertical plane.
- To zoom an image hit 'Z' then left click and drag the mouse.
- To pan hit 'P' then left click and drag the mouse.
- Click on 'Tools' in the menu bar at the top left of your InteleViewer screen for more functionality!
Hint 5: Key Images
InteleViewer allows the reporting radiologist to create a set of 'key images'.
- This group of images appears at the right-hand end of the thumbnails at the top of the InteleViewer screen, or at the bottom of the list of images when you right click on the mouse on one of the study images.
- On the thumbnails the key images are identified by a small gold key in the top right corner of the thumbnail.
- In the right click list they are labelled key images.
- The selected key images can be annotated by the radiologist with arrows / markers and text to highlight the structures and abnormalities of interest.
Uses for Key Images
- Key images are helpful when numbering vertebral bodies in cases of transitional lumbosacral anatomy.
- Key images facilitate quick correlation between the radiology report and relevant imaging findings.
- This is useful for reviewing the key imaging findings with patients at the time of clinical review.
- Also useful for indicating the location of subtle imaging findings described in the report, for doctor education and when discussing with colleagues.
