Canterbury Breastcare (CBC) have purchased.

CBC has been involved in a 3 month trial of the Hologic Selenia full-field digital mammography machine. We have now made a decision to purchase it. We are well on our way to becoming a fully digital mammography site with 2 out of 3 machines being digital.

This new machine differs from our existing GE digital machine in that the field size is larger and well suited to women with larger breasts.

The Selenia full-field digital mammography system provides exceptional image quality and improves the efficiency of examinations, ultimately giving the ability to increase patient throughput.

Digital mammography is particularly good for women under age 50 yrs and for those with dense breast tissue.

  • Digital mammography exams typically take less time than traditional film-based exams.
  • Radiologists can zoom in and out of the breast images, and contrast can be lightened and darkened. 
  • Digital images give better visibility of the breast, particularly near the skin line, chest wall and in women with dense breast tissue.
