OsiriX - Dicom PACS workstation For Mac

Viewing Images on MacOS

CRG image CDs can be viewed on Apple Computers (Macs) using free software called OsiriX.

OsiriX is similar to the program that CRG radiologists use to view images when formulating the report that goes to a referring doctor, midwife, or other health professional. This is a DICOM viewer. DICOM is the file format of medical images (like JPEG for photographic images).

The current version of OsiriX, 3.7.1, runs on Apple computers running MacOS X 10.5 or later
(to find out your operating system version choose "About This Mac" from the Apple menu).

Earlier versions of OsiriX are available, if you have an older version of Mac OS X (e.g. for 10.4, you will need OsiriX 2.7.5)

Instructions

  • Download the software
  • Double click the zip file and then open the installer
  • Follow the instructions to install the OsiriX application
  • Open the OsiriX application
  • change some of OsiriX preferences:  OsiriX menu > preferences > CD/DVD
  • Tick the checkboxes next to the following options:
    • Automatically add images into the database when CD/DVD mounted
    • Load only those files described in the DICOMDIR file
    • Load all DICOM Files

  • Close the preference panel then load your CD with the OsiriX application still open.

The images on the CD will now be automatically loaded into the OsiriX application database and you will be able to view them using the 2D viewer.
  • It is a reasonably user friendly application but can be somewhat confusing for the uninitiated! There is a help file within the application and online documentation / help is also available.

Happy Viewing !
